Monstrumlandskab

Ballerup Børnebibliotek, 2010

Monstrumlandskab er en permanent installation i Ballerup Børnebiblioteks alrum, og svaret på et ønske fra personalet om at give børnenes læsning fysiske rammer, der kunne være med-skabende gennem den legende fortælling. Det er et stationært lege-læse-reol-møbel, der opfordrer til både leg og fordybelse, og samtidig en platform for teater, huler og læsekroge, der inviterer til, at man går på opdagelse, kravler, klatrer og læser.

En lettere organiseret ophobning
Monstrumlandskab er et stedsspecifikt værk bygget på stedet over 3 måneder. Det er bygget af aflagte møbler, pædagogisk legetøj, bogstøtter, skærebrætter m.m. fundet på bibliotekets møbelmagasin. Med bibliotekarenes kommentarer og historier undervejs er det også blevet en form for erindringsbevarende arkiv, som fortæller historier om personalets personlige og faglige rolle i i biblioteksinstitutionen. En rolle som med tiden er blevet mere og mere begrænset. Værket har en meget stor forarbejdnings- og detaljeringsgrad, som opfordrer til fordybelse, sænker hastigheden og fremviser de gode egenskaber, som ligger i de gamle møbelmaterialer.

I 2016 blev Monstrumlandskab delvist overmalet i forbindelse med en ny ledelsesstruktur og udskiftning af personale. Der er efterfølgende ophængt fotografier af værkets oprindelige udformning.

Værket blev til i samarbejde med Ballerup Bibliotekerne, Ballerup Kunstråd, Arkitekt Marie Cathrine Trabutz Jørgensen og bygningssnedker Asbjørn Albertsen.

Monstrum Landscape

Ballerup Children’s Library, 2010

Monstrum Landscape is a permanent installation in the Children’s Library in Ballerup. The work is a stationary play-read-bookcase-furniture that encourage the children to play and at the same time activates the entire room by being a platform for theatre, meetings, festivities and other things.

The installation was created on the basis of the library’s ambition to become a different and versatile library for children. The landscape is a mix of labyrinth and sculpture, bookcase and bureau with caves, drawers, staircases, stages, museums, reading corners and much more. The contents of the drawers, closets and shelves are not permanent, but can be replaced by the staff and children. In this way, the installation is constantly changing in exchange with the users.

Monstrum Landscape is a site-specific work built on site and it is constructed as a spatial collage with fragments of disposed furniture, pedagogical toys and more found in the library storage. In this way, the playing-sculpture is also an archive. We started started out with the collection of materials, then made drawings and built a model. The collection continuously brought new discoveries, new materials, new aspects of the history of the library, that created new opportunities for the shaping of the work, which were built in about three months.

In 2016 parts of the Monstrum Landscape were repainted in connection with a new management structure of the library and a renewal of the staff. Photographs of the work’s original shape were hung on the walls.
